TRANSLATION MATTERS
Translation and the Teaching of English
The programme intends to highlight the potential of translation in the teaching/learning of English and the bilingual awareness it raises in the mind of speakers, translators and interpreters. It makes speakers aware of differences between English and Greek, not least at the level of grammar (available in grammar books) but also beyond that, at the level of pragmatics (which is rarely discussed in the classroom).
Translating in Professional Contexts
The aim of the programme "Translating in Professional Contexts" is to help attendees focus on the potential of translation to reshape target discourses, in professional contexts which make use of translation practice. The programme examines strategies translators use when they renegotiate aspects of discourse meaning into another language context; it also highlights special techniques in the transfer of socio-cultural phenomena, which makes discourse appropriate in a target context.
